While landing with a parachute, a so-called wingsuit, a foreign parachutist had a fatal accident yesterday near Log under Mangart. The 35-year-old American citizen also had a parachute with him, but for some unknown reason he did not open it, and the victim died at the scene of the accident due to serious injuries, according to the Nova Gorica Police Department (PU).
As Dean Božnik, spokesman for the PU Nova Gorica, told STA, the unfortunate parachutist landed on steep wooded terrain. The dead parachutist was found at the scene by mountain rescuers from Bov.
The Bov police officers also inspected the scene of the accident. In the investigation, it was found that the skydiver died as a result of the injuries he received during the fall. The investigation of the tragic accident is still ongoing, as a sanitary autopsy was ordered by the doctor of the Tolmin Health Center to determine the exact cause of death. The police will inform the District Prosecutor’s Office in Nova Gorica of all findings in a written report.
