According to unofficial information, the woman who was struck by lightning on Split’s Kašjuni beach is a citizen of Great Britain and is said to be around 40 years old. According to the Croatian media, she was very lucky in the accident, because there happened to be a medical technician nearby at the time of the accident, who provided her with first aid even before the arrival of the emergency services.
On Saturday around 3 pm, a woman was struck by lightning on Kašjuni beach in Split. After resuscitation, the tourist with severe burns and a head injury was taken to a hospital in Split. He is in the intensive care unit.
Although the Croatian media initially reported that she was struck by lightning while she was in the sea, she was actually on the beach with her daughter at the time of the strike.
Free Dalmatia also reports that the British woman was really lucky in the accident. A medical technician happened to be near the beach where the incident happened, and he immediately came to her aid. On the road above Kašjun, medical teams accompanied the triathletes who took part in the “Marjanski Đir” race.
As soon as the man realized what was happening, he allegedly rushed to the beach and helped the forty-year-old woman until the arrival of the emergency medical aid team.
The police inspected the scene and interviewed several witnesses.
A strange change in the weather
Dalmatia was hit by a violent storm on Saturday afternoon. As reported by the Croatian portal Dalmatia Danas, the change in weather was sudden. At first it was sunny and hot, the beach was crowded. In just ten minutes, dark clouds gathered over the coast, a heavy downpour began, accompanied by strong gusts of wind. People ran away from the beach, some hid under trees from the storm.
