While some European countries have been dealing with violent storms and storms in recent weeks, the southern part of the old continent is in the grip of a severe heat wave.

Record temperatures are being reported from Greece, Spain and Italy. A few days ago, meteorologists predicted that temperatures in the area of Sicily and Sardinia could reach a record 48 degrees Celsius. And that happened today. A record has also fallen in Palermo, Sicily, by more than 2 degrees Celsius. In August 1999, they measured 44.8 degrees Celsius, and today it is 47 degrees Celsius.

According to meteorologists, the heat wave should gradually subside from Thursday, and the air temperature will drop slightly. The heat wave will be somewhat more limited to the south-eastern part of Europe by Thursday, but the maximum temperatures will still be well above 35 degrees Celsius.

In Greece, where large-scale forest fires are ravaging the islands of Rhodes, Corfu and Euboea these days, the longest heat wave in the country’s history has been recorded, as it has lasted for more than 11 days, and according to forecasts, it should last for 17 days. In Greece, a heat wave is defined as a period when the temperature reaches or exceeds 39 degrees Celsius. Temperatures of up to 45 degrees Celsius are expected this weekend. The previous record-long heat wave was recorded in Greece in 1987, when the heat lasted 11 days.
