While in many parts of the country not even a drop of rain has fallen, or only a few millimeters of rain have fallen, in some places in the north, north-west and part of central Slovenia, more than 100 millimeters of rain has already fallen, Ars wrote on Facebook. As they explained, stationary heavy downpours have been renewing for several hours in Gorenjska, Koroška and in the area of ​​the Idrijski, Škofjeloški and Polhograj hills.

Large-scale flash floods are intensifying in this area, they warned.

The flow of the Drava at the border with Austria has also increased rapidly in recent hours, and the flow of the Meže before the confluence in Dravograd is around 350 cubic meters per second. The Drava will flood along the stream in exposed areas and in the section downstream from the Markovci dam, they announced.

According to them, the upper part of Gradaščica was already flooding at night. Poljanska Sora is also flooding to a greater extent. Precipitation is still recovering in these areas, large-scale flash floods are likely.

In some places, railway traffic was stopped due to flooded railway lines

Due to the flooded railway lines, the Kranj-Jesenica line, the Carinthia line between Ruši and Pliberk, the Bohinj line between Most na Soča and Jesenice and the Velenj line between Šmartni ob Paka and Velenje are currently closed. Due to the flooded roads, problems also arise with alternative bus services. Passengers are advised to monitor the announcements.

An alternative bus service is being established on the route between Kranje and Jesenice, Slovenske železnik announced. Meanwhile, there is no alternative transport on the Carinthian part. Roads in this area are also closed due to landslides. The train runs on the Maribor-Ruše route.

The Bohinj line between Most na Soča and Jesenice is closed due to the flooded Bohinj tunnel. The roads are closed. An alternative bus service will be established on the route Bohinjska Bistrica-Jesenice.

When the railway traffic between Šmartni ob Paka and Velenje is disabled, an alternative bus service is established between Šmartni ob Paka and Šoštanje.

Due to the flooded roads, problems also arise with alternative bus services. Passengers on Slovenian Railways are therefore advised to follow the announcements on their website www.sz.si and potniski.sz.si.

Arso has issued a red warning for north-eastern, north-western and central Slovenia

Due to prolonged downpours, which are expected to cause further rises and overflows of watercourses, the Slovenian Environment Agency (Arso) has issued a red warning for north-eastern, north-western and central Slovenia, which is valid until midnight today. Due to the heavy rainfall that fell in a short period of time, some watercourses have grown violently and are already flooding.

The rising rivers will spread over most of the country during the day. At first, floods from torrents and smaller rivers are likely, and during the day and night on Saturday, river floods in Podravje, Pomurje, Posavje and in the basins of Savinja, Krka, Kolpa and in the wider area of ​​central Slovenia.

Flooding is expected to continue and intensify in some places in the eastern half of the country on Saturday. Areas with stronger downpours will also be flooded by rainfall and backwater, meteorologists warn.

According to the traffic information center, due to the consequences of storms, floods, sand drifts and landslides, the Lesce and Brnik junctions on the Gorenje highway, the Velenje-Arja village road in Velika Pirešica, the Radlje-Dravograd road in Boštjan and Gortina, the Ravne-Dravograd road and Dravograd-Maribor near Ozbalt. Roads are also closed, Sv. Barbara-Hrastnica, Šenčur-Voklo, Tolmin-Idrija pri Dolenja Trebuša, Idrija-Sp. Idrija pri Marof, Mlaka-Srakovlje, Studeno-Železniki, Gorenja vas-Škofja Loka, Trebija-Žiri, Jezero-St. Fužina and Tržič-Ljubelj on the Austrian side.

Due to the downpours all night, many fire brigades evacuated people from three camps

Firefighters mainly pumped water from flooded buildings at night, protected several landslides, removed debris from under bridges and rescued submerged vehicles from flooded roadways, according to the report of the Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Protection and Rescue.

As they wrote, they recorded 1,039 events, namely in the regional centers of Celje, Kranj, Ljubljana, Maribor, Murska Sobota, Nova Gorica, Postojna, Ptuj and Slovenj Gradec.

In the Northern Littoral region, the most problems were in Tolmin and Idrijsko-Cerkljan, and as regional civil protection commander Samo Kosmač told Radio Slovenija, stormwater flooded houses, triggered several landslides that buried roads, and in Baška grapa they had to to evacuate residents from two houses.

The juries are cut off from the world due to triggered avalanches, the intervention manager Janez Tratnik told the radio.

Precipitation covered part of the country already on Thursday evening and caused some problems, especially in Carinthia and Gorenjska.

According to the report of the Agency for the Environment of the Republic of Slovenia, torrential rains and rivers are rising sharply and flooding in Gorenje and Carinthia and in the area of ​​the Idrijski, Škofjeloški and Polhograj hills during prolonged downpours. Gradaščica and Poljanska Sora are already flooding to a greater extent, a significant flood wave will move downstream in Savinja, Kamniška Bistrica and Gradaščica in the next few hours.

Gradaščica is flooding upstream, but buildings in the Ljubljana municipality are not flooded, Robert Kus, deputy commander of civil protection of the Municipality of Ljubljana, told STA. As he said, he does not expect any major problems, the flow at Dvor is stagnant, but at Bokalci it is increasing and will be for another hour, but it should not reach critical values.
