At the railway station in Zidan Most, a freight car carrying a transformer station overturned at night. A citizen of the Czech Republic was seriously injured in the accident and is currently being treated in a hospital in Celje. He was in the cabin behind the wagon that overturned. At the same time, the cabin was torn off and taken to the embankment of the Sava river. Rail traffic through this station has been running on a single track since morning, causing delays.
Around 1:30 a.m., a freight wagon loaded with a transformer station overturned at the railway station in Zidan Most in the direction of Celje. One person was seriously injured, the Administration for Protection and Rescue announced.
In the accident, the injured person fell about ten meters deep on the bank of the Sava river. She was rescued by firefighters from the Celje Professional Fire Department and the Laško Volunteer Fire Brigade. The Police Administration (PU) of Celje subsequently announced that a citizen of the Czech Republic, who was in a special cabin behind the wagon that overturned in the accident, was injured.
“When the wagon overturned, the cabin was torn off and carried to the embankment of the Sava river. The Czech citizen was seriously injured in the process. He was taken by ambulance to the Celje hospital, where he remained for treatment,” explained the PU Celje. They added that the cause of the accident has not yet been confirmed, and the tour of the area, which was also attended by the state prosecutor and the investigating judge, is still ongoing.
Firefighters also inspected the surface of the Sava river as far as Radeč as a precaution, due to the possible spillage of oil derivatives. They also inspected the wagon, which has two fuel tanks and batteries. As explained by Slovenske železnice, the transportation of extraordinary cargo was carried out by an external contractor.
According to the data of PU Celje, railway traffic through the Zidani Most station was completely blocked for three hours, and since the early hours of the morning it has been running on one track. Slovenian Railways also confirmed that there are delays, and asked passengers for their understanding.
According to the data of the Administration for Protection and Rescue, considerable damage was caused. They also confirmed at PU Celje that the material damage will be very high.
