Koma, the fifth novel in the series of crime novels by Tadej Golob, was recently published. He spoke about the new book and whether he actually writes about himself in it at the Slovenian Book Fair.
Tadej Golob said in a conversation on the main stage of the Slovenian Book Fair that he was moved and happy, but not overwhelmed by the fact that more than 56,000 readers borrowed his books last year and this year. “It means much more to me that I have readers than awards,” said Golob, who won the Kresnik award for his first serious novel Svinjske nogice. “Then I expected every subsequent book to receive a firefly. Since there wasn’t, I wondered how people couldn’t see that these were great things,” he said.
Koma, the fifth in a series of books about Taras Birsa
The series about Taras Birsa, which Golob started with the novel Jezero, is inspired by the Scandinavian type of crime women. After the first book Jezero, the Goga publishing house also published Lenin’s Park, Valley of Flowers, Virus and the latest book Koma, which the publishing house wrote that “sovereignly crosses the boundaries of the crime genre and measures the socio-political pulse of the corona time”.
The book murder that changed his life video
Golob said that he had hoped that Koma would be published in the summer, but the writing was delayed for a year and a half. “On average, I write one crime story a year. If the weather is mostly bad that year, I write faster,” he added.
Golob’s accident in the mountains, coma and rehabilitation
The book tells about how Taras wakes up from a coma after a serious accident on Polhograjska Grmada. Not only does he face a long struggle with demanding physical rehabilitation, but there is also a large memory gap in his memory. In the book, the author and Taras Birsa wonder how to investigate a crime if you don’t even know it happened.
Finally encouraging news: the writer Tadej Golob is recovering well after the accident
Golob also had an accident in the mountains in 2020 and was seriously injured and was in a coma for 14 days afterwards. Regarding the extent to which Birsa adopts his character traits in the latest book, he said that Taras, although he offered him his diagnosis in Koma, still remains the same as he was in the previous books. He admitted that every author writes about himself to a certain extent and the main character is ultimately what the writer thinks he should be.
Sebastijan Cavazza finally gave Birsa a face
After Jezero, a popular series of the same name was created Sebastian Cavazzo in the main role, later they filmed the miniseries Lenin’s Park and Valley of Roses. Speaking at the book fair, the writer said that before Cavazza portrayed Taras, he could not imagine him visually, so he was very happy when he finally saw him in the series.
