Names Ludwig Gisch and Maria Rosa Mayer Munoz they definitely don’t sound Russian. The man’s first and last name are German, while the woman has the Spanish names Maria and Rosa, the German surname Mayer and the Spanish surname Munos. But according to our sources, these are not their real names or surnames. They are actually Russian nationalities. Their true, Russian identity has not yet been publicly revealed.

According to our information, the arrest of the alleged Russian spies last December took place around 9 am in their house in Črnuče, when the two children were at school.

Russian “illegal” spy in Slovenia

The man who posed as Ludwig Gisch and the woman who posed as Maria Rosa Mayer Munos are illegal spies. As the BBC wrote last year, the Russian intelligence services know two types of spies or intelligence agents. The first are these legal or legal agents. These are Russian spies, who mainly work officially as diplomats in Russian embassies abroad.

Under the guise of diplomats, they are primarily trying to recruit locals in these countries for intelligence work for Russia. These Russian “diplomats” are often expelled to Russia by Western countries. For example, a wave of these expulsions took place after this year’s Russian attack on Ukraine.

“Illegal” Russian spies

Others are these illegal or illegal agents. These are Russian spies living abroad, hidden under false identities. So they pretend to be Americans, Canadians, British… With these fake identities, they can get to places they wouldn’t be able to get to if people knew they were Russians and would therefore treat them with more suspicion.

The Russian spy Sergei Cherkasov, who posed as the Brazilian Victor Muller Ferreira, even managed to get a job at the International Criminal Court in The Hague the year before last. As a rule, it takes five to ten years to build these convincing fake identities, which is why the number of these “illegal” Russian agents is said to be small. According to the BBC, the Russian military intelligence service GRU has fewer than 30.

Brazilian Russian in The Hague

Last year or the year before last, Dutch intelligence officers arrested a Brazilian named Victor Müller Ferreira. But in reality, a Russian was hiding behind this name Sergey Cherkasov. As a Brazilian citizen, Ferreira even studied in Dublin and Washington.

He came to the American capital in 2018, and graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 2020. In the same year, he is said to have sent a request to do a free internship at the International Criminal Court in The Hague. There are some similarities between Muller Ferreira and the two Russian spies from Ljubljana: all three had the citizenship of one of the South American countries, and all three also had German-sounding surnames: Muller and Gisch and Mayer respectively.

The fake Heathfield claimed to be the son of a Canadian diplomat and to have studied in the Czech Republic. His wife, who was traveling on a British passport, also claimed to be Canadian. The Russian spies had sons Alexander and Timothy, who were 16 and 20 years old at the time of their arrest. Apparently, they didn’t even know about the true identity of their parents – the older son allegedly found out about her right before the arrest.
