PHOTO and VIDEO: Andrej Rozman Roza made the audience laugh to tears

In MIKK Murska Sobota, on Thursday, September 22, 2022, the literary festival “Oko besede” took place, where Andrej Rozman Roza, poet, writer, playwright, theater artist and all-round creator, presented himself to the audience as part of “Literary Cities” a wide variety of art genres in various media.

The meeting of Slovenian youth writers “Oko beseda” is a literary festival that traditionally takes place in Murska Sobota. Literary cities are a set of literary events that are intended for participants, especially locals, and are open to the public.

Simona Cizar, president of the Argo society, welcomes everyone to the 27th meeting of Slovenian youth writers “Oko beseda” in the introduction. Today they are guests at MIKK Murska Sobota, which is a haven for creative, young at heart and young people in general, and certainly the mentioned guest belongs in this space the most. At the same time, he adds that the best thing is to see the locals who are attracted by the mentioned events and wishes everyone a wonderful experience of the literary evening.

Andrej Rozman Roza has so far received many awards, such as the Levstik Award, the Župančič Award, the Prešeren Fund Award and many more. Among other things, the master of linguistic mischief received the vechernica award in 2019 for his work “Rimuzine and črvlolazen.”

The mentioned guest started his performance with a declamation of his work, a part of which you can see in the video below.

Then there was a conversation between dr. Dragica Harami and the aforementioned guests. Here, the host of the conversation mentions that today’s guest is recognized in youth literature primarily as a creator of poetry and prose for children. Above all, his works are permeated with comedy. He published a series of books for children and adults. He mainly writes parodic and comic songs and is one of the most original and versatile contemporary creators in our country.

The conversation then turned to his work “Urška”. It is essentially a fun, modern reworking of Prešeren’s poem Povodni mož, known to everyone. Then the listeners could find out more about the work “Lepa Vida in action.” In the meantime, they learned how the young crocodile got the shoes, learned that his favorite commercials are on Czech TV and, of course, refer to Czech Railways, and listened to the story of two straps.

Among other things, they got to know the story behind the 101 riddles (“Riddles: 100 + 1”), learned something about his prohibition tips: Let’s twist against: “Joško, stara kluka – Nehat pit ne upa – Nam se vino gabi ! – Abstinence beckons!” and were shown how to dance a silent dance, laughing to tears.
