Starting in October, passengers will no longer be transported by the Belgian airline Air Belgium. As the company explains, the reason for the suspension of passenger traffic is financial problems. The company will now shift to cargo flights and the leasing of aircraft for commercial purposes.
Among the reasons for the problems, the airline highlighted the economic consequences brought about by the covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine. They were also heavily burdened by high fuel prices and inflation.
Air Belgium explained that passenger flights will be operated as planned until October 3, while passengers who bought tickets after that date will be refunded.
The carrier employs 500 people. The company plans to transfer staff who are currently working in the field of passenger transport to other jobs, if possible.
Air Belgium, based at Brussels Airport, was founded in 2016. Recently, it has directed its passenger flights mainly to destinations in South Africa and Mauritius.
