Belgian police have arrested around twenty people in a raid linked to drug trafficking. At the same time, they seized as much as 2.7 tons of cocaine.
According to the Croatian newspaper Jutarnji list, a 36-year-old man from Zagreb is among those arrested by Belgian specialists in Antwerp within a week. T. Š., a graduate economist who owns several companies in Croatia. The Belgian police suspect the Croat of having smuggled 2.7 tons of cocaine into the country together with several people of different nationalities. Among those arrested were also citizens of Belgium, the Netherlands, Armenia, Latvia, Morocco and Ukraine.
The Belgian police seized the drug as part of a raid in one of the warehouses there, where thieves had transshipped cocaine packed in jute bags. The container with cocaine was taken over at one of the terminals of the Belgian port shortly before. The circumstances of the police operation are not yet known, but the police have confirmed that the suspicious container was discovered while it was still in the port. So they waited in ambush for someone to take it over. The trail then led them to the warehouse, which they surrounded and broke into on Monday morning. They arrested 11 men and one minor who were unloading the drugs on the spot. A Zagreb resident was among them, Jutarnji list reports. T. Š. according to them, he has not yet come into conflict with the police in Croatia. It is said to be the largest cocaine seizure to date in which a Croatian citizen was involved.
