As part of a major police operation, Europol arrested 37 members of a criminal gang that smuggled and sold weapons and drugs on Thursday. Raids were carried out throughout Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Netherlands, Italy, Belgium and Germany. The big police operation was supposed to be called the Balkan Cartel.
According to Serbian media, six citizens of Slovenia, one Serb, seven citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina and eight Croats were detained. The large police operation, in which Europol and the American Drug Enforcement Agency also participated, was said to be coordinated by Croatian police officers.
The criminal group is said to be led by a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who is currently serving a four-year prison sentence in Italy. Despite being behind bars, he is said to continue to lead the criminal group and regularly give them instructions.
During the raid, they confiscated 148,000 euros in cash, 18 firearms, including two machine guns, and 2,512 ammunition. They also confiscated 15 kilograms of cocaine, 11 kilograms of heroin, three kilograms of amphetamine, seven kilograms of marijuana and 10 kilograms of hashish.
