Portuguese, German and British police have completed the investigation in the area of the reservoir in the south of Portugal, where the British girl Madeleine McCann is said to have disappeared. According to Portuguese media reports, nothing related to the case has been found.
Portuguese, German and British police officers in the area of the reservoir lake in the south of Portugal today, after three days, ended the latest investigation in the case of British girl Madeleine McCann, who disappeared in 2007. The Portuguese police have announced that they will hand over the collected material to the German authorities, foreign press agencies report.
At the same time, they did not provide any details of what they were collecting or what the goal of the operation was. Soil samples and pieces of cloth were reportedly collected in the cordoned off area, but nothing linked to the case was found, Portuguese local media reported, according to French news agency AFP.
The investigation continued this week at the request of German authorities, who as of 2020 claim they have solid evidence that the girl known as Maddie, who disappeared when she was three, is dead. A German repeat sex offender is believed to be involved in the case Christian Brückner. He is currently serving a prison sentence in Germany for raping a 72-year-old American tourist in 2005, as well as in Praia da Luz, Portugal, where Maddie also disappeared two years later. According to Portuguese media reports, Brückner is said to be regularly staying near the reservoir lake on the Arade River.
The reservoir lake is about 50 kilometers away from the place where the girl disappeared. The police already examined the surroundings and the lake in 2008, but did not find any traces. Even an extensive international search operation for Sadov did not bear fruit, and no one has yet been charged with the girl’s disappearance.
Investigators believe Maddie may have been abducted from the vacation home where her family was staying. During that period, the 45-year-old Brückner visited this part of Portugal several times, where, among other things, he broke into hotel rooms and sold drugs.
