Ryan Grantham, who appeared in the popular series Riverdale, will spend the rest of his life behind bars. This is what the court decided after the 24-year-old admitted to shooting his mother Barbara Waite in March 2020.

Canadian actor Ryan Grantham he earned a life sentence for his cruel act. The 24-year-old, who also starred in the series Riverdale in the past, will be able to apply for parole after 14 years. The court imposed the sentence on him because of his confession that he had murdered his mother two years ago.

On September 20, the court sealed the actor’s fate with a decision on the punishment, among other things, it issued a lifetime ban on the use of firearms. Both life imprisonment and a firearms ban are mandatory sanctions for second-degree murder in British Columbia.

Grantham’s lawyer Chris Johnson told E? News said that after his arrest, the young man “worked hard to change things in his life.” He explained: “He was getting a lot of professional help, struggling with what he did and the way he put up with it. Now he hopes that he can devote the rest of his life to atonement for his actions.”

In March, he pleaded guilty to murdering his mother, and the trial continued in June. It was then that the public learned that Grantham Barbara Waite shot her in the back of the head while she was playing the piano at her home. After the cruel act, he recorded a video in which he confessed to the murder while standing next to his mother’s body. The next day, he armed himself with pistols, bullets and other weapons and drove his car towards Rideau Cottage, located in Ottawa, where he also planned to take the life of the Canadian Prime Minister To Justin Trudeau. Later, he changed his mind, turned the vehicle around and headed for Simon Fraser University, which he attended, with the intention of going on a killing spree. Fortunately, he did not carry out the plan, as he drove to the police station in Vancouver and confessed: “I killed my mother.”

In court, the star, who suffered from depression before the horrific act, said: “The fact that I wasted my life hurts me. In a situation this horrific, an apology seems completely meaningless. And yet, I am very sorry, I regret the act with every particle of my being.”
