Captain Jan Oblak spoke to the press before the decisive match with Kazakhstan.
On Monday at 8:45 p.m., the Stožice stadium will host the decisive European Championship qualification match between Slovenia and Kazakhstan. A match that can bring Slovenia a place in a major competition if it wins or draws against its direct rival.
Slovenia could have already confirmed their qualification for the Euros in Denmark, but the home team won 2:1, and there was a lot of disappointment in the Slovenian camp. One of those who calmed down the disappointed and angry fans right after the match was Jan Oblak, who also appeared in front of the press the day before the match.
“We all wanted to be in the last game in the Euro game. I think we’ve done very well with the qualifiers up to this point, but we’re missing the last game. The final. We can’t wait for it to start. We believe that we will succeed and I am sure that the whole team will do their best for this common goal that everyone wants” the Atlético star and captain of the Slovenian national team said in the introduction. As a positive side for the Kazakhs, he highlighted the fact that the fact that the Kazakh players, who play in the domestic league, have been training together for two weeks, preparing for the showdown with Slovenia and San Marino, could be an advantage.
“The communication between the boys is good. No one liked the defeat in Denmark, but it didn’t affect us. We knew what was waiting for us, that this is the most difficult away game in the group. Denmark was better and there is nothing to add here. we are aware. Since the end of the match, we are only thinking about Kazakhstan, we are thinking positively. We believe in success. I see the boys, even yesterday in training, everyone was very very very focused. We are only thinking about the match.” Oblak said about the current situation.
The captain of the selected team also spoke about the year and a half of the rise of the Slovenian national team, from that day in Belgrade to the match that can bring the European championship: “The path was not easy, but only each next match counts. In the end, Monday’s match will show whether we have built well enough to deserve to be in the European Championship or not. A lot of work has been put in from the professional management to the players. Since I me in the national team, with the exception of 2016, when we were in additional qualifications, we were never in the game again in November. Now it’s different.”
