Ema Kozin to extraordinary success.
Slovenian boxer Ema Kozin is the new world champion in the super welterweight category according to the WBO and WBC versions. In Manchester, after ten rounds, she defeated Scotland’s Hannah Rankin by decision and achieved her 24th professional victory with the greatest success of her career.
The Slovenian boxer, who will turn 25 in 14 days, won 2:1. Kieran McCann (96:94) and Marco Moscadelli (98:92) voted for her, and Frank Michael Maass judged that the eight-year-old Scot was better after a close match.
The duel opened the door to the biggest success of women’s boxing in Scotland and Slovenia, and Ema Kozin was better. Having said that, it should not be overlooked that the competition was organized by Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions group, which is considered one of the most established in the sport and offers a platform for the next big matches.
In an even match, the first round was better for the Scot, who dominated in the middle of the ring, but in the next round the Ljubljana woman took the initiative. A few strong blows on both competitors did not leave any consequences.
Few shots hit the target precisely in the duel between two experienced competitors. Both of them kept an appropriate distance, which made it impossible for their rivals to assert their advantages. It was nice to see in the fifth round, when the Slovenian boxer pressed Škotinja against the ropes of the ring with a series of punches. They proved that both are extremely motivated and ready in the second half of the fight, when they raised the pace of the fight in the seventh round. In the end, only a good last round and a so-called lucky shot could save the Scotswoman, but the Slovenian found a way to keep the minimum points advantage.
In her professional career, Ema Kozin had 24 wins and one draw, and the only one she has beaten so far was American women’s boxing legend Clarissa Shields.
