In exchange for the donation, Slovenia is to receive a credit from the USA, which it will use for the equipment that the Slovenian Army needs in its operation, the 24 ur web portal reported.

According to the portal, Ukraine should send Slovenian armored vehicles very quickly to the eastern front, where older weapons are also used to defend against Russian aggression.

The vehicles were stored and preserved among tanks and other armored vehicles near Pivka, and deconservation lasted several weeks. Logistical difficulties prevented a faster expedition to Ukraine, most likely due to Hungary’s decision to ban weapons through its territory to the east.

It is a rather old military technique, which Slovenia inherited from Yugoslavia, manufactured by the company Yugoimport 40 years ago for the needs of the then Yugoslav People’s Army. The infantry fighting vehicle is an amphibious tracked vehicle with a crew of three soldiers and space for an armed division. It has a 20-millimeter cannon, a machine gun and anti-tank missile launchers.

Slovenia has been actively selling these Yugoslav-made infantry fighting vehicles since 2015, when the National Assembly approved a decree on a plan to sell the state’s real property. Slovenia commissioned the company S Lux for the sale, which found a buyer for them in January this year. The armored vehicles are to be purchased by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense through the Czech brokerage company Pamco INT.

However, the previous government annulled the deal to sell the BVP M-80A infantry fighting vehicles by a secret decision, as the vehicles were supposed to be donated to Ukraine. S Lux brought an action before the administrative court with a request for an interim injunction to establish the illegality and repeal of the administrative act, ie the secret decision of the government. The case is being handled by the Supreme State Prosecutor’s Office and the Court of Audit.
