The workers said that they were paid several times lower than the agreed amounts.

“Our team looked into the matter and found that a technical error occurred during the withdrawal process,” Foxconn’s statements are summarized by the French news agency AFP.

“We apologize for the error in the entry into the computer system and ensure that the actual payout is the same as agreed,” they added.

According to their assurances, they are currently continuing to actively communicate with the employees who were affected by the false information, and the salaries and bonuses of all employees will be “paid in accordance with company policy”.

Meanwhile, a more detailed picture was revealed to AFP by one of the company’s employees. He explained that the violent protests occurred after employees who had signed a contract with the company to receive 3,000 yuan ($420) for at least 30 days of work received 30 yuan ($4.2) in their accounts.

Foxconn, also known by its official name Hon Hai Precision Industry, is the largest electronics contract manufacturer in the world, assembling accessories for many international brands. The Taiwanese company is, among other things, one of the main suppliers of the American technology giant Apple.

Foxconn had a surge in cases at the said plant covid-19, forcing the company to shut down the sprawling complex to contain the spread of the coronavirus. The factory is considered a city within a city, employing around 200,000 people, according to AFP. In addition to iPhones, they also produce other technological equipment.
