One of the greatest ski jumpers of all time will take another break.

A Norwegian woman Maren Lundby announced that she will take a competitive break after the World Cup matches in Lillehamer. The three-time overall winner of the World Cup in ski jumping has already missed the entire 2021/2022 Olympic season, but this year she returned to the World Cup and performed at the season opener in Wisla, Poland.

The Norwegian also missed last year’s Olympic season due to problems with maintaining the right body weight. At the beginning of March 2021, she became the first world champion in history on the big jump, and then she stopped her sports career. This year, however, she returned to the elite, but did not reach the places she is used to.


In Wisla, she thus achieved 16th and 24th place, and because of this she decided to compete at her home test in Lillehamer, after which she will take a break again and devote herself to the preparations for the peak of the season, the world championship in Nordic disciplines, where she will Planici defended her title from Oberstdorf. He also wants to look forward to the Raw Air home tour in good form.

Lundby should thus miss the trials in Titisee Neustadt, the New Year’s tour in Beljak and Ljubno ob Savinja, and the Asian tour in Sapporo and Zao. She will return to the games at the end of January

Lundby is considered a real jumping legend and one of the most successful competitors of all time. Together with the legendary Pole Adam Malysz is the record holder in the World Cup with three consecutive victories overall (2018-2020). In the World Cup, she collected as many as 30 individual victories (four here in Ljubno), while she climbed the podium as many as 62 times.

She shone not only in World Cup matches, but also in the biggest competitions. In 2018, she thus became the Olympic champion in the individual event on the medium vault, while she has two gold and one silver medal from the individual events at the world championships, as well as two silver and three bronze medals from the team and mixed team events.
