Right now Janja Garnbret rush to Singapore, where she was received by an enthusiastic crowd.
“They told me I have a big fan base here and they’ve been inviting me to visit for a couple of years. I was positively shocked,” the 23-year-old said in a press statement about fans who were ready to wait for her signature for several hours.
Now she is looking forward to visiting Japan again, where she became the first ever Olympic winner in Tokyo last year.
“I won’t be competing in the World Cup final event in Morioka, I’ll have some time to let myself go and do what I want, including some relaxation by the ocean. I look forward to returning home at the end of October with fresh thoughts,” added Garnbretova.
Crazy ride
By winning the overall difficulty classification of the World Cup at the age of just 23, the Slovenian vertical climber climbed to her 10th overall title after becoming the overall difficulty winner for the fifth time.
“It’s hard to grasp everything that has happened since 2016 when I won my first overall title. It was a crazy ride! It is remarkable for Slovenia that it also has a common winner among men. I am very happy for Luka (Potočar), he has developed a lot as a competitor and the success he achieved this season is well-deserved,” adds Garnbretova, who brought home a new set of the highest honors from this year’s European Championships in Munich.
“It is difficult to win just one competition, but it goes without saying that it is even more difficult to stay at the top for a long time. We know the saying – it is always easier to attack than to defend. I’ve been in the role of defending champion for some time now and I’m proud to be able to keep improving for so long,” she added. “It’s one thing to win, it’s another to enjoy the process that leads you to your goal. For me, one does not go without the other, and despite all the years of competing in the World Cup, I still have a lot of fun, which has always been my key to success,” concluded the owner of 37 gold medals in the World Cup.
