“I think I still have many years ahead of me, after all I’m young”
“I think I still have many years ahead of me, after all, I’m young. Cross-country skiing, especially cross-country skiing, has always been very attractive to me,” he said at the press conference. “I’m only 46 and that’s the best age for long distance running.”
“I think it will be fun, not just skiing, I’m sure I can also bring something to the team,” said Tufte, who wants to leave his mark in running and also contribute to the development of young Norwegian cross-country talent in the team. His first goal is to compete in the famous cross-country race Vasaloppet. It is an annual long-distance race that takes place on the first Sunday in March. The ninety kilometer track starts in the village of Berga, south of Sälen, and ends in the town of Mora. It is the oldest and most massive cross-country skiing competition in the world.
“For me, it’s more interesting to train something than to train just to show off in front of my wife. She’s happy with me anyway. It will be interesting,” he added. Tufte has appeared on this course many times before, even when rowing. In 2007, he was 43.
