Ford already showed the electric version of the transit custom a fortnight ago, and now they have shown the remaining versions that will be available alongside the electric van. The new transit custom will hit European roads next year with a wide range of drives, diesel, plug-in hybrid and fully electric, and in various body styles.

Regardless of the drivetrain, the Transit custom is available in the same body styles, with the same dimensions and equipment packages. The diesel-powered and plug-in hybrid get additional openings for engine cooling and have a slightly modified radiator grille. The exterior appearance will change along with the different equipment packages. The off-road colored Trail gets aluminum bumper guards and fender trims, and the base bumpers are black instead of body color. In the plug-in hybrid and the electric version, there is also a place for charging the battery at the back.

the cabin. In the center of the dashboard is a 13-inch touchscreen with the latest Sync4 operating system. Below it, you can see some more touch-sensitive switches. The lower-cut steering wheel can be tilted and a special pad installed in it, which creates a smaller working volume (video).

Transit custom will be available in two lengths with two different heights. In addition to the regular cargo van, it will also be available as a double cab van and as a chassis van. Later, it will also be available as a travel van, intended primarily for family use.

With a renewed diesel engine

If anyone was afraid when the electric-only version was introduced a fortnight ago that only this would be available, they can now rest easy. Transit custom will be available with four different power diesel engines. The entry-level two-liter engine will have 81 kilowatts, the medium-powered one will have 100 kilowatts, followed by even more powerful with 110 kilowatts and the most powerful with 125 kilowatts. It will also be available with a limited-slip differential, automatic transmission and four-wheel drive. In the case of four-wheel drive, it has a maximum towing capacity of 2.5 tons.

The plug-in hybrid consists of a 2.5-liter gasoline engine, an electric motor and a battery with a capacity of 11.8 kilowatt hours. Ford hasn’t announced the exact numbers yet, but according to current information, it’s the same drive as the one installed in the Kuga. Thus, we can expect around 165 kilowatts of system power and around 50 kilometers of range. The electric version is powered by an electric motor with 160 kilowatts and 415 newton meters of torque. The battery has 74 kilowatt hours and offers up to 380 kilometers of range according to the WLTP cycle.
