Painter Roman Uranjek, known as one of the founding members of the art collective Irwin and Neue Slowenische Kunst, died on Saturday at the age of 60. Požar writes that the painter committed suicide, and the most likely reason is the alleged Smodej affair.
In recent days, some online portals reported that he was supposed to be Dušan Josip Smodej, cultural activist from Novi Mesto and manager of Fotopub, involved in sexual abuse of women. Smodej publicly denied all accusations and insinuations, saying that it was blackmail by his acquaintance, she even threatened him with death, reports Siol.net. Bojan Požar on TW adds: “For the time being, the media is silent, but the Smodej affair, judging by the information coming from the cultural scene, could have terrible dimensions…”
Painter Roman Uranjek, ex-husband too Alje Brglezchief of staff of the President of the Republic Borut Pahorcommitted suicide, Požar clearly writes. “It happened on Friday, at four o’clock in the morning, apparently very carefully: Uranjek published his last two posts in his life on Facebook and Instagram, and sent an email to his best friend about what he was going to do and where the keys to the apartment on Tavčarjeva Street were. This message reached the doctor a few hours later Tatjana Pintarwho lived with Uranjek years ago, and she then found him hanging in the bedroom, dressed in his characteristic black suit.” Požar also states. According to Požarje, everything indicates that Uranjek’s death is directly related to the affair Dušan Josip Smodej. Roman Uranjek died 24 hours after the first publication and subsequent outbreak of the mentioned affair in the media (source: Prava.si and Slovenian news).
It is known that Uranjek was Dušan Smodej’s mentor, together they organized some galleries and exhibitions, as well as culinary events and infamous parties. According to Požar’s sources, these took place not only in the premises of the Fotopub, which was run by Smodej at Tivolska cesta 44, but also at Uranjek’s home. Media silence is no accident
Požar also points to media silence: “Although on August 9, a special profile called “Against the violence of Dušan Smodej” was established on Instagram, with many testimonies from girls (and where an older well-known cultural figure who could be Uranjek was also mentioned), the majority of the media are about the affair remained silent for at least another eleven days, until Saturday’s announcement on Slovenske novice. Which is not a coincidence, as it is said to be related to the fact that some prominent politicians of the Left are also said to attend these wild parties, with sources mentioning the MP Miho Kordiša and also the coordinator of the Left and the newly minted Minister for Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities Port of Mesca. Well, it is also known that Mesec was friends with Uranjek, as was the former Member of Parliament from the Left Violeta Tomić.”
Smodej is said to have a whole series of recordings (photographs) of specific parties at which many people are said to be present, which is why there is now also a great panic on this scene. Thus, some people on the Internet are hastening to withdraw photos related to Smodej, others are publicly distancing themselves from their acquaintance with Smodej, otherwise Dušan Smodej, who is already getting the nickname “Slovenian Epstein” on the Internet, is currently abroad, in Croatia, and apparently he does not intend to return home so soon. Smodej is said to be blackmailing Uranjek with the videos, asking that the latter help him out of the “trap” in which he found himself after setting up his profile on Instagram, otherwise he will make the (probably incriminating) videos public, Požar writes.

The police are intensively checking information about suspected crimes in the area of sexual inviolability, which were highlighted in media publications and online networks in recent days, the police announced yesterday.
They are also checking whether they have received any reports in this case (including anonymous ones that could be linked to this case), which, as they state, has not been confirmed in the check so far, except for the received report of suspected extortion due to debt, which the content and circumstances are still being verified.
The police call on all victims of alleged crimes to report the cases to the police, namely at the nearest police station, on the emergency number 113 or via the e-notification of crimes.
They also call on other people who may have information about the circumstances of the alleged crimes to report them to the police, which they can also do by calling the police’s anonymous phone number 080 1200 or via an anonymous e-report.
The police do not disclose which case it is, and, as they say, due to the protection of personal data, they cannot answer questions relating to specific or identifiable natural persons.
In recent days, some media have written about accusations of alleged sexual and financial abuse, which are directed at Novi Sad cultural figure and representative of the Society for Contemporary Culture Fotopub Dušan Josip Smodej. A page Against Violence by Dušan Smodej was also established on Instagram, where anonymous testimonies of their experiences with him are published. According to Slovenske novic, Smodej denies the accusations.
