The municipality of Ljubljana and the management of the company Bolt have signed an agreement regarding the use of electric scooters in the capital. The agreement stipulates that the use of electric scooters will also be allowed in Ljubljana’s pedestrian zone, but on the condition that when entering the pedestrian zone, their speed will automatically be reduced to five kilometers per hour.

According to the mayor of Ljubljana Zoran Janković they want modern services in Ljubljana, such as electric scooters, but not at the cost of pedestrian safety. The pedestrian zone is intended for pedestrians. “No one has the right to put pedestrians in danger in order to make more money,” he emphasized at today’s joint press conference of the municipality and the company Bolt.

According to the agreement, the speed of electric scooters will be reduced to five kilometers per hour when the user enters the Ljubljana pedestrian zone. Bolt representative Matej Černe assured that the company had already adjusted the speed of scooters in the Ljubljana pedestrian zone and expressed satisfaction with the signed agreement. They also agreed that Bolt would prepare a list of potential parking spots where users could leave the electric scooters after using them. Janković predicts that the municipality will offer these packing rooms free of charge until the new year, but later will start charging a user fee for them. Today, Janković did not want to reveal its amount, but he emphasized that it will be a symbolic amount, with which the municipality of Ljubljana will not make any money. He also reminded that the municipality will tighten the measures for driving motor vehicles in Ljubljana’s pedestrian zone starting October 1st.
